Franklin County, VA Franklin County, VA Rocky Mount, VA Rocky Mount, VA Temporary Seasonal Temporary Seasonal $14 an hour $14 an hour GENERAL DEFINITION Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents at County Park facilities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP Serves under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Facility Supervisor and/or Aquatics Manager.
TYPICAL TASKS Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of safety hazards; Maintains order, discipline and constant surveillance of swimmers; Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency; Performs rescues and follow up procedures, including administration of first aid; Assists in preparing records concerning accidents, rescues, assists and first aid; Performs ticket sales, retail sales and food preparation; Performs other duties as may be assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated abilities in the exercise of good judgment in routine and emergency situations and maintain positive working relationships with both fellow employees and the public.
Must possess considerable knowledge of water safety, rescue and first aid techniques; have thorough knowledge of emergency services and auxiliary services available in the surrounding community; and the ability to prepare and record varied reports.
TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or currently attending high school.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RELATED OBLIGATIONS Must have the ability to work weekends and holidays; must have a successful criminal background check.
All Lifeguard applicants must possess current certification in and maintain a valid American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
If an applicant does not have this training, they must be willing to take the course and successfully complete it.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to demonstrate high skill level in swimming, approaches, carries, resuscitation, assists and victim removal.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Duties are performed in an outdoor environment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Position is at the Smith Mountain Lake Community Park, located at 1480 Parkway Avenue in Moneta, VA 24121.
These are considered Seasonal positions with a timeframe of May 25 until September 2.
Benefits do not apply to Seasonalpositions.
Applicant must be at least 16 years old and a current student or a High School graduate or equivalent.
Lifeguards must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Applicants must be able to obtain Lifeguard Certification that will offered by the County of Franklin.
Training is approximately 30 hours.
Required uniforms and supplies will be provided.
Applicants must be available to work the full season May-September.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
